Kathryn Junor

View Interrupted is a reflection of Kathryn Junor's recent travels.

Through these paintings, she muses on how her privileged lifestyle enables her to travel, experience diverse cultures, and immerse herself in beautiful oceans, among other incredible adventures. These artworks were conceived from sketches Kathryn made aboard trains, in cafes, and on sandy shores.

The installation titled ‘View Interrupted’ is fueled by Kathryn's thoughts on how the influx of tourists affect these destinations. The Airbnb phenomenon often leads to the displacement of locals, and Junor observed visitors lost in their smartphones, seemingly unaware of the lives and spaces they traverse. The smaller paintings featured in the installation depict local scenes from Geelong and the Surf Coast.

The backpacks and totes showcase original paintings that have been transformed into wearable/functional art. Many of these pieces were painted during Kathryn's travels, and her hope is that they accompany others on their own adventures
