In these paintings David introduces curved lines derived from circles

and from the profile shape of a pear. These lines are used in a variety of

ways to form dynamic shapes.

The paintings do not specifically illustrate pears but it is interesting to

note that in many cultures the pear symbolises abundance and

sustenance. The pear is often found in Renaissance religious painting,

representing the love of Mother and Child.

David’s aim has been to paint lively pictures, using a limited range of

colours.
